I'm a software developer and there's an incredibly insightful parallel to distributed computing design here that I don't feel like drawing out too much, but basically it's 10,000x simpler to just have a bagillion copies of the same simple computer that you spend a lot of time making real good (like doing single arrow shots) than trying to make one really complicated extra powerful computer that does all the work in one place (like shooting three arrows at once).
We’ve been here before, but I have a new technique this time!!

Monolithic vs Microservices — What Should You Build
Choosing the wrong architecture too early can cost you years of tech debt! Not every product needs microservices Not every startup should start monolithic Let’s break it down :- ❓When will you need Monolithic architecture? Monolith is focused, fast, and manageable ✅ You’re building an MVP or early-stage product ✅ Your app is simple, with tightly coupled features ✅ You need to launch quickly with a small dev team ✅ Deployment speed matters more than modularity ❓When will you need Microservices? Microservices are scalable, flexible, and complex ✅ You’ve scaled and need feature-specific deployments ✅ Your teams work on different modules in parallel ✅ You want fault isolation and independent scaling ✅ Continuous deployment and DevOps are in place ⚠️ Don’t follow trends. Follow your product’s stage and your team's capability. Get expert guidance tailored to your tech stack and business goals. "The Hydro Project at UC Berkeley is developing cloud-native programming models that allow anyone to develop scalable and resilient distributed applications. Our research spans across databases, distributed systems, and programming languages to deliver a modern, end-to-end stack for cloud programming." A part of that is the Rust Hydro library, for writing choreographed distributed dataflow programs. I.e. run it on a cluster or couple processes, with primitives for sending data etc.
They have also published a number of interesting-looking papers exploring topics such as defining the foundational semantic properties of streaming languages (streaming progress and eager execution) and rule-based rewriting of distributed algorithms, CRTDs and Byzantine Fault Tolerant protocols to make them more scalable without being error-prone. The 2021 New Directions in Cloud Programming sets the direction for the project (and I appreciate its decomplecting of the aspects of distributed systems :)), and the 2021 master thesis Hydroflow: A Model and Runtime for Distributed Systems Programming provides, I assume, background for Hydro. It states:
[..] Hydroflow new cloud programming model used to create constructively correct distributed systems. The model is a refinement and unification of the existing dataflow and reactive programming models. Like dataflow, Hydroflow is based on an algebra of operators which execute in streaming fashion across multiple nodes. [..] construct provably monotonic distributed programs which can always make forward progress without incurring the high cost of coordination. Hydroflow is primarily a low-level compilation target for future declarative cloud programming languages, [..]
More about the 2025 Hydro:
Hydro is a high-level distributed programming framework for Rust. Hydro can help you quickly write scalable distributed services that are correct by construction. Much like Rust helps with memory safety, Hydro helps with distributed safety. Hydro also makes it easy to get started by running your distributed programs in either testing or deployment modes.
Hydro is a distributed dataflow language, powered by the high-performance single-threaded DFIR runtime. Unlike traditional architectures such as actors or RPCs, Hydro offers choreographic APIs, where expressions and functions can describe computation that takes place across many locations. It also integrates with Hydro Deploy to make it easy to deploy and run distributed Hydro programs either locally or in the cloud.

The purchase of the mansion was a spontaneous decision on their part.
Sam suggested it, actually.
1 they had the money, 2 they needed much more space than a single apartment could offer, and 3 now she gets to create her own garten of venomous plants!
Tucker holed himself up in his own room, his tech room, because he finally can separate his workspace and his bedroom!
Danny was haunting the mansion in return.
It was during the day that Danny saw the shadow of a child running. He had no idea the mansion was already haunted— why hadn't the ghost said anything before?
Searching for the shadow, it took them all weeks to even get a glimpse of the Ghost.
Only....
Only it wasn't a ghost. It's a whole human child. A human child left behind—
His name is Tim Drake and he has been living here his whole life, how— where were his parents?!

Learning AI, DSA and distributed systems
My attempt to learn AI and Machine Learning started back in 2015, when I took Andrew Ng’s Coursera course on the topic. It introduced a vast array of interesting concepts but they were taught using Matlab. Then, in 2019, I took another course by Andrew Ng, this time on Neural Networks and Deep Learning, also on Coursera. You can check out my certificate here. This time python was the language of…

absolutely obsessed with izutsumi's introduction to the party. a cat randomly shows up one day and everyone just independently decides they have a cat now. they don't discuss whether or not they should help her or offer to let her join the party, they just go "i guess we have a cat now." and that's it. Then within five minutes of acquiring their new cat all of them would die for her which is 100% how getting a cat works

I feel absolutely swamped by my responsibilities. I have a Senior Capstone project to do, which will take over my next 9 months, so for the next 9 months I will not be able to relax. I do not exaggerate when I say I will be fully stressed out, because I don't do well when I have things to do.
This is just a static property of me. If I know I have a deadline looming, however far away, I will stress about it. Even if the project is completed, or even if I have done all I can, I will still think about it. I will dislike the fact that I have a responsibility, and it will take up a stupidly large portion of my mind.
I always get into a slump when school starts (be it the start of the year, quarter, or week), and it always seems to be the worst I've encountered yet (usually because I have terrible memory). This time, it's bad.
I want to Leave. I really don't want to go through with this. Most of all, I want to escape. But I don't want to miss out on my friends. If I postponed my Capstone project another year, I would be giving up on having classes with most of my friends, since we're all graduating (aside from a couple buddies, S and JH included). If I Left, I wouldn't have any friends, not like I'd really mind.
Besides, if I really pushed my capstone year back once, I would be almost as badly situated as I am now. I'm only taking one other class besides this, and it's one that seems fun (distributed systems) despite it currently taxing my time and energy.
This stress is monstrous. I cannot deal with it. I don't say this lightly. I am currently folding under the pressure I perceive to be lain on my own damn shoulders. I need something to come rescue me because the mental torment is unbearable. I don't like sounding like this, I don't like talking about this, I don't like feeling like it's all in my head. The unfortunate truth is that it is really all in my head.
If it's all in my head, and I take my head, then it'll be gone, right?
Hopefully.
Thanks for finding me.
Thanks for staying.

Cybertronians who are actually well-informed about organics, maybe they’re even xenobiologists! But then they come to Earth and meet the chaotic little things called humans.
For the first few months the local coterie of humans have to put up with having various foods grabbed away from them by panicked mechs who KNOW organics cannot eat theobromine!! Who even allowed this in the mess hall?!?! What do you mean, vending machine? No, this won’t do.
Your secret desk stash of whiskey? Confiscated. Your fresh snack of grapes? Nixed. They catch you putting chopped onions and jalapeños on a hot dog and you have to call Ratchet because they blow a circuit
Prowl has to step in to defuse a hostage situation when they try and remove the coffee bar
Eventually they do chill out. And there’s even a genuinely nice moment sometimes. Like when they pick up that those brownies you’re about to devour have a type of ingredient you’re allergic to, and save you from a reaction. Or when they speak up for you to the mechs who don’t get organics at all.
But even when they know it’s safe for you to enjoy avocado (healthy, even)! They’re still side-eyeing your guacamole in complete disbelief. Why the frag is this one species able to eat so many things that nothing else on the planet - or in the galaxy, can eat?

Many think we need to resort to operational transforms to do stuff like this [resolving concurrent updates to data], but as figma showed, as long as we’re okay with having a single leader, and are fine with last-write-wins kind of semantics, we can drastically simplify this and just facts are enough. When time for even more serious resolution comes, you can open up the OT rabbit hole. -- Stepan Parunashvili in Database in the Browser, a Spec
